Resident Evil Village (also known as Resident Evil VIII), has almost arrived, here is what we know so far.
Resident Evil Village is one of the most anticipated games to date and a lot has been written about this tenth major installment in the game franchise.
Here is what we know so far.
Resident Evil village will be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7 and is set to be released on the 7th of May 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
There was a PlayStation only Resident Evil Maiden demo, as well as a Resident Evil gameplay demo, and a Resident Evil Village Castle demo. Those last two were timed, both in terms of when you could play and how long you could play.
Maiden doesn’t include Any combat and you get put into the role of an unnamed protagonist. According to Gamespot: “the protagonist in the demo is referred to as the “Maiden” and, as such, the demo is standalone from the main game.
In fact, the demo doesn’t feature any combat or the new blocking system detailed in the showcase’s Village gameplay demo, and it’s unclear if the Tall Vampire Lady will make an appearance. But you can expect ray tracing and 3D Audio support, the latter of which requires the use of headphones. Players will be challenged to “rely solely on their wits to make their escape” in lieu of the combat you can expect in the full game.”
In the first timed demo, Ethan fights werewolves known as Lycans in a village setting. In the second, he’s exploring Lady Dimitrescu’s castle, fighting ghoulish enemies in her dungeon, and attempting to flee one of her daughters.
Reportedly the game will be similar to Resident Evil 7 in gameplay with more focus on action elements. As you know if you have played Resident Evil 7, Ethan Winters is the least combat-trained protagonist of the franchise, and as such you will probably have to use more brains than Braun this time around.
Capcom’s gameplay reveal teased that blocking will play an important role in avoiding danger more than just randomly running and gunning. As for the crafting system, the grid-based inventory from Resident Evil 4 will reportedly be making a comeback as well as the merchant players know as Duke who you can buy and sell your weapons from.
There will also be a hunting and cooking system in place where Ethan Winters will have to kill animals and take them to a kitchen to be cooked into meals that will up your stats.
You will have to take your “hunts” to The Duke who will turn your ingredients into special dishes that provide the player with permanent upgrades. As well as the food system you will be able to buy supplies and talk to the Gunsmith at The Duke’s emporium to upgrade your weapons. There will be a currency called “Lei” which you can earn from killing enemies.
Chris Redfield apparantly makes a comeback but he is not your friend, and even though it’s unclear how much of an antagonist he will be we do know that he will not be on our side.
Other enemies in the game will include half-wolf/human people that will be fast and a force to be reckoned with.
To top it off we will see a group of Victorian vampires that drain Ethan’s blood in the trailer and it seems they can control a large swarm of insects as well.
As far as the actual Resident Evil Village storyline goes you will play as antagonist Ethan Winters who has been living with his wife Mia when Chris Redfield suddenly appears and kidnaps his daughter Rosemary to a mysterious European village.
The game also features an antagonist known as Alcina Dimitrescu who is a mutant human countess and assumedly the matriarch of the Dimitrescu family. Resident to an Eastern European country, she inherited Castle Dimitrescu, a fortress controlled by the family since its Medieval inception. For at least seventy years between the 1950s and 2020s, she was tied to a series of violent homicides. Dimitrescu is known to live with three women whom she considers her daughters.
The actual Village in Resident Evil Village is a dark gothic, snowy village complete with scary beasts and people just trying to survive. There is a castle at the top of this Village where Ethan will venture to rescue his daughter. Other places mentioned are stronghold, a reservoir, and a place named House Beneviento as well as “Heisenberg’s factory” which has previously been referenced by Lady Dimitrescu as a place where Ethan escaped before ultimately getting to the castle.
The game will reportedly support Ray-tracing which is good news as far as in-game graphics goes.
RE: Verse
On the Resident Evil website the game is described as such:
“In Resident Evil Re: Verse you can test your skills against other players in four to six-person survival horror revenge matches. Play as beloved characters from the Resident Evil series and turn the tides of battle with powerful bioweapons. Take part in 5-minute Deathmatches, where the player with the most points wins! Use the weapons and items you find to take down even more powerful enemies!”
A unique feature of the game comes in the form of “Bioweapon’s revenge”, where after you get taken out in the game your character’s body then transforms into a bioweapon that you can use against other players. To transform and get stronger you are able to pick up multiple virus capsules. With this feature, you can use revenge and gain more points at the same time.
The characters available to play are Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S.Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and HUNK. The Bio=weapons that you could turn into include: Fat Molded, Hunter Gamma, Jack Baker, Nemesis T Type, and the Tyrant T-103 (super Tyrant.
RE: Verse was supposed to come out on the 7th of May, but has been delayed to a later unknown date and will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam, which already has its pre-purchases open.

We also know that the ESRB rating will be M for mature with warnings for Blood, Gore, Intense Violence, and strong language so this installment won’t be for the faint of heart.
