“I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment.”
The big, fancy reveal that was supposed to happen tomorrow has now just kind of kind of just happened, and Rockstar developers are reacting to this. The GTA 6 trailer leaked a day early, confirming a 2025 release.
The official GTA 6 trailer was uploaded by Rockstar more than 12 hours ahead of schedule after it was leaked earlier this evening. Originally, the trailer was supposed to debut tomorrow morning. As is frequently the case with significant leaks, those who had intended to present the trailer in a specific manner are clearly disappointed.
Although some of their colleagues have expressed the sentiment more diplomatically, Lloyd Knott, lead VFX artist at Rockstar, may have best captured it with his simple tweet, “that fucking sucks.”
“Would have been nice to do this with all of you at the same time,” stated Phil Beveridge, senior game designer. Senior gameplay animator Javier Altman echoed that sentiment when he said, “I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment.” Similar comments from other developers regarding the leak indicate that there is a great deal of frustration within the studio, even among well-meaning staff members.
Though they are not the first in the industry to suggest that this is an unfortunate situation, a number of developers, including both Altman and Knott, did encourage fans to enjoy the trailer regardless. Last month, Halo community manager John Junyszek tweeted his condolences for Rockstar developers whose diligent work had come to light too soon, following reports that the trailer was in the works. Before big trade shows, similar feelings are usually felt about leaks.
It also needs to be mentioned, even though it may be an old joke:
