Previous GTA games were not released on PC at launch, and it appears that GTA 6 will follow suit
Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive confirmed the official reveal of its new game in a press release, announcing a 2025 release date after the GTA 6 trailer leaked hours ahead of schedule. The publisher stated in the first paragraph of that release that it was “proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PS5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025.
There is no platform there. Take-Two makes no mention of PC, implying that Rockstar is following in the footsteps of previous releases. GTA 4 didn’t come out on PC until December 2008, more than seven months after it was released on Xbox 360 and PS3.
It was an even longer wait for GTA 5, which would take two years after its PS4 and Xbox One editions to arrive on PC. Rockstar’s last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released on PC just over a year after its initial release.
That pattern suggests that this is less surprising than it appears, but GTA 5 has made billions of dollars, and you’d think that with all that fuel in the tank, Rockstar would aim for a massive simultaneous release. That said, it clearly understands how big a game this is going to be – if there’s any game that can rely on a staggered release, it’s this one.
