Steam has scheduled its “Next Fest” for June in the hopes of competing with E3.
Steam holds its Game Festival quite regularly, with the last one being in February, and this time they have decided to give it a rebrand. It will now be known as the Steam Next Fest and will kick off from the 16th of June to the 22nd of June.
Valve announced this rebrand on a new event page for the Steam Next Fest.
In the announcement, they stated: “We’ve renamed the Steam Game Festival to more directly communicate its focus: Announcing Steam Next Fest, a multi-day celebration of upcoming games. Explore and play hundreds of game demos, watch developer livestreams, and chat with the teams about their games in progress, coming soon to Steam.”
Valve hasn’t divulged anymore tidbits of information about the festival as yet except for the name change and the fact that it will be running at the same time as E3 was meant to. E3 was meant to be an exclusively online event this year but at the time of writing, it seems E3 has been cancelled. This has not been officially confirmed though.
Judging from the last Steam Fest where we got over 500 playable demos this will probably happen again. Some of the games you could get your grubby hands on previously were: , Almighty: Kill your Gods, Genesis Noir, The Riftbreaker, Blunt Force, Hazel Sky, Fling To The Finish, and many many more.
This was a showcase of sorts for the newer developers and a chance for them to show off their games in an accessible way. The developers also have livestreams where they answer questions about their games.
Even though we are not sure of the lineup of the Steam Next Fest, we will be keeping our beady eyes peeled for any more news regarding the festival and convey that to you asap. So stay tuned to find out more about this exciting Gaming Festival.
