Developing Games to Compete with the Smash-Hit Palworld
Following the remarkable success of Palworld, Tencent, a prominent mega-publisher, is venturing into the pet survival genre in pursuit of a similar triumph. As Bloomberg reports, citing insider sources, Tencent aims to emulate Palworld’s achievement amidst challenges faced by its own game projects. To achieve this goal, Tencent has enlisted the expertise of its Timi and Lightspeed studios, both of which are developing games designed to compete with Palworld, combining pets with stylized violence.
Tencent’s innovative strategy involves incubating multiple projects from developers in the same genre, fostering healthy competition to yield superior games. This approach, previously successful with titles like Honor of Kings, aims to invigorate the pet survival niche and capture the attention of gamers.
Palworld, developed by Pocketpair, has quickly garnered widespread acclaim since its January launch, boasting an impressive daily player count exceeding 100,000. The significant success of Palworld has evidently caught the attention of Tencent, prompting the publisher to pursue similar achievements in the genre.
In contrast to Pocketpair’s modest approach, Tencent’s Timi and Lightspeed studios, backed by the publisher’s resources, are gearing up to create titles that aim to rival Palworld’s impact. While Pocketpair aims to steer clear of big-budget AAA projects, Tencent is evidently eager to capitalize on the genre’s popularity with ambitious endeavors.
