Haste: Broken Worlds is a new indie game from TABS and Clustertruck developer Landfall Games that focuses on speed

When it comes to the most entertaining indie games on Steam, Swedish developer Landfall Games has to be mentioned. Clustertruck, its 2016 high-speed vehicle platformer, still has a 93% Steam rating, but that pales in comparison to TABS: Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, the delightful physics-based combat sandbox game from 2021, which has a near-perfect 98% user score.

So, what happens next for Landfall? The answer is Haste: Broken Worlds, a high-octane platformer about running, jumping, and gliding at breakneck speeds that already looks fantastic.

Broken Worlds appears to follow Landfall’s simple but effective mantra. Based on what the team learned with Clustertruck, Haste could be the perfect ‘one more run’ simulator, challenging the best parkour games such as Mirror’s Edge, Ghostrunner 2, Assassin’s Creed, and, of course, Titanfall 2.

The world is collapsing around you. That is most likely not a good thing. Fortunately, you’re a fantastic runner, so it’s time to charge through the forests, deserts, tundra, and more on your way to safety. Running alone isn’t enough; you’ll need to leap and glide through the air to avoid all manner of natural and unnatural impediments, and you’ll also need to master your landing skills to keep your momentum going, lest the collapsing world behind you catches up with you.

It’s a simple concept, but if Landfall’s previous games are any indication, the proof will be in the delicious pudding. The bright, bold colors, the low camera angle that gives you a clear view of what’s ahead, the strange and wonderful obstacles in your path, from winding tree branches to spiraling lasers – everything works together to capture the feeling of a high-speed chase at its best.

Levels use procedural generation to ensure that no two challenges are the same, but if you crash, fall, slip, or otherwise fail to complete a run, you’ll be given the option to restart from the beginning. After all, nothing is more frustrating than making a mistake and knowing you could fix it if you just had one more chance.

Broken Worlds currently has no set release date, but you can wishlist it on Steam or visit the game’s official website to keep up with its progress. I’ll do everything I can to keep up with this one.
