The game’s early access launch is now beset by server troubles, bugs, and complaints from gamers who claim they were misled
The Day Before, one of Steam’s most-wishlisted titles, has officially released into early access after several delays–though, judging by some of the game-breaking flaws and glitches that are presently plaguing players, it may not have.
As of this writing, The Day Before is the best-selling game on Steam, with over 31,000 concurrent players. But that’s not the whole tale. Though the zombie survival game’s subreddit looked prepared for a less-than-stable debut, The Day Before’s launch appears to have gone considerably worse than predicted, with one key glitch in particular giving players substantial difficulty at the very start of the game.
Players in the game’s initial moments wake up in a hospital bed, as revealed in numerous footage published on The Day Before’s subreddit. The doctor then instructs the players to “attempt to get off the bed.” The only problem is that as soon as players start doing so, they fall through the floor into a gray hole and die. Others, on the other hand, are unable to even speak with the doctor and thus cannot proceed in the game. Following The Day Before’s opening minutes, users have also reported getting stuck behind walls or receiving catastrophic errors that force the game to crash.
Several gamers, however, do not appear to be able to get that far. Server difficulties are presently plaguing the game, with many players complaining that they are unable to connect or even find a server that isn’t already busy. Some on the subreddit believe they were misled by The Day Before’s marketing, which billed game as a survival MMO but is now being described as more of an extraction shooter.
The Day Before now has a “Mostly Negative” user review score on Steam, with players complaining about the game’s lack of working options, servers, and the famed falling through the floor glitch.
The game will be in early access for “around 6-8 months, but this could change.” according to an early access FAQ from the game’s developer Fntastic located on The Day Before’s Steam page. According to the developer, the objective for early access is to address bug issues and gameplay balance while also introducing new content such as extra weapons, vehicles, and housing. According to Fntastic, the price of The Day Before, which is presently R 330.00( $40), will rise after its early access period. Despite player complaints, the game is still classified as an MMO, with the FAQ noting that The Day Before lets players to “to fully immerse themselves in a post-apocalyptic open-world MMO.”
So far, Fntastic has only made one post on X on The Day Before’s launch problems, noting “Overload on North American servers.” The servers are operational. It fills up far too soon.”
The Day Before has had a bumpy start. It’s been delayed several times, and the game was withdrawn from Steam earlier this year due to a trademark issue. The developer, an all-remote firm that had never launched a game prior to The Day Before, had already come under fire for developing the game using “volunteers.”
