Then, in the future, there will be a “big surprise”

Mortal Kombat 1 fans can expect more story content in the future, as creative director Ed Boon has confirmed new DLC for the fighting game is on the way. Boon stated that similar to Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath expansion, this DLC will add to the game’s narrative and will be followed by a “big surprise.”

“Just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11, we’re going to release a second part with more story and we have a big surprise after that,” Boon said at the CCXP23 event in Brazil

Aftermath was a significant expansion for Mortal Kombat 11, containing new characters, arenas, and a campaign with long-term implications for the franchise. While the next chapter in Mortal Kombat 1’s New Era timeline is currently as sealed as Queen Sindel’s miracle haircare products, several intriguing threads could be explored in an expansion. Sub-Zero’sriseto power has him focused on the Lin Kuei’s cybernetic evolution, Shao Kahn is stirring up a revolution in Outworld, and Shang Tsung is learning some new tricks in his current exile.

There’s still plenty of room for the expansion to go off the rails, especially since the campaign concluded with a Mortal Kombat universe expansion. Perhaps an attack by Ninja Mimes?

Mortal Kombat 1 is currently adding new DLC characters to its roster. Omni-Man, Invincible’s father-of-the-year, has recently arrived in the game, and Quan Chi will be added on December 14. Following the arrival of the evil sorcerer, John Cena’s Peacemaker will appear, followed by Homelander, Ermac, and Takahashi Takeda.
