Behaviour Interactive has nerfed Chucky in preparation for his addition to the ever-expanding Dead by Daylight roster

Dead by Daylight is adding even more cult horror film icons to its beloved cast of killers, with Behaviour Interactive preparing to add the world’s freakiest doll to the mix. Although Chapter 30 and its main character, Chucky, aren’t yet available, players have been slicing and dicing their way through survivors as the red-haired porcelain boy in a Public Test Build. The DBD developer has taken feedback into account and is making changes in preparation for Chucky’s full release.

While the upcoming killer in Dead by Daylight approaches his big release date, the horror game’s developer is hard at work perfecting Chucky’s gameplay with feedback from the PTB. The community has been generally pleased with Chucky’s role as a killer in-game, prompting Behaviour Interactive to keep any changes affecting him to a minimum. Nonetheless, there are a few nerfs to be aware of, including one particularly significant change to Unique Perk Batteries Included.

According to Behaviour Interactive’s developer update, the Batteries Included perk is “far stronger during the end game” than the team intended. The developer believes that this is especially noticeable on small maps and when the new perk is combined with others, so he is changing the perk to deactivate when exit gates are activated. Fans may be disappointed by this additional clause, as it makes the perk far less useful for end-game play.

Players have already reacted to the change, expressing displeasure that Behaviour Interactive was quick to nerf a useful perk due to its synergy with others but hasn’t done the same for notoriously OP ones like Hope and Made For This. As a fan, I believe the devs nerfed Chucky’s perk far too soon, possibly killing its appeal before the actual update with the Chapter 30 release date.

Other changes that appear to be reasonable are also detailed by the developer. The team is increasing the time it takes to Scamper under a pallet and adjusting Chucky’s movement speed after missing a Slice & Dice attack to help survivors stand a better chance against the killer doll. The duration of the killer’s attack is also increased with the update, as is a “balancing pass on many of the other Add-Ons.”

Chucky isn’t the only serial killer facing Nerfs. Trickster’s recent Dead by Daylight update included buffs for the spooky game’s most fashionable killer, but the developer believes they may have made him “a little too powerful.” To address this, as well as the community’s frustration with playing against the Trickster, the update reduces the popstar killer’s throw rate back to three blades per second. Main Event will also require eight blades to activate now, rather than the PTB’s six.

According to Behaviour Interactive, this could be the final developer update before the new year. The patch with all of the listed changes will be released on Tuesday, November 28, along with Chapter 30 and Chucky. As the team considers player feedback, we can hope to see the devs rework Batteries Included once more.

The upcoming changes to Add-On effects are fantastic, but I’d like players who haven’t yet accessed the PTB to feel the full force of Child Play’s lethal doll.
