It’s been a while since the Pictomancer made an appearance
The Job, which was revealed at this weekend’s Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Tokyo, is said to be a “new magical DPS” who can create powerful matter with just a paintbrush. There’s no word on when Pictomancer will be available in-game, but it’ll be released alongside the Dawntrail expansion, which is set to launch sometime in summer 2024. Look at the vibrant strokes and brushes below.
Pictomancer is not a new vocation in the long-running series, having first appeared in Final Fantasy 6 when party member Relm could bring sketches to life in a lethal manner. The Job then reappeared in the contentious mobile spin-off Brave Exvius, which hilariously featured Ariana Grande as a guest star.
While Relm could reimagine her opponents, the class in Final Fantasy 14 can animate weapons, environments, and other objects in the world. According to PCGN, director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida explained during a FanFest keynote that the class isn’t “a full support Job,” but it’s “not quite as attack-focused as something like Black Mage.”
Yoshi-P also stated that the new class will be available at level 80 and will be instantly unlocked for Dawntrail owners in Gridania. Because the unlock requirements are nearly identical to the Viper class, which was recently announced at another fan event, you can play through the entire new story with either Job. The Dawntrail expansion is said to be the beginning of the game’s next ten-year adventure.
