That’s some serious commitment

The Nier series will presumably continue as long as its main producer and director, Yoko Taro, lives. Taro and Nier producer Yosuke Saito attended the G-Star 2023 convention in South Korea last week, November 16, according to 4Gamer . At a panel during the convention, Saito joked that the Nier series would continue for as long as Taro lived.

However, this does not imply that a Nier project is currently in the works at PlatinumGames. Saito reportedly stated that “circumstances” prevent PlatinumGames from releasing another Nier game right now, but did not elaborate.

Instead of working on a new Nier game right now, Saito and Taro are collaborating on a new, separate project, which they both plan to unveil next year in 2024.

Following the event in South Korea, Taro jokingly responded to the convention’s comments. “Did I say such self-important things? Sorry,” the Nier lead said in the tweet below, despite the fact that it was apparently Saito who said the Nier series would continue as long as he lived.

Since Nier Automata first set the series ablaze with worldwide success in 2017, we’ve had a steady stream of Nier-related projects. Nier Reincarnation, a mobile spin-off, and Nier Replicant, a remake of the original 2010 game, were both released in 2021, and an anime adaptation of Nier Automata began earlier this year.
