Darktide update for Warhammer 40k The sequel to The Traitor Curse will be released in December
Warhammer 40k Darktide has returned. The Grimdark co-op shooter is marking its first birthday with a massive two-part update, the first half of which was released in November. Fatshark, the developer, has revealed what we can expect in the next Darktide update, The Traitor Curse part two. Meanwhile, Darktide’s return to form has been met with a surge in Steam reviews, propelling it even higher than its beloved predecessor Warhammer Vermintide 2 to an impressive 9/10 Steam review score in the last month.
40k Warhammer Darktide certainly had a rough patch in 2023, but a recent class rework in October and the first part of The Traitor Curse in November have helped to restore player satisfaction.
In comparison, while its overall Steam review score had dropped to ‘ mixed,’ it now has a ‘very positive’ 91% over the last 30 days, pushing it above even Vermintide 2 and into the ranks of the best co-op games.
It’s a worthy revival; our Darktide review shows that we were impressed by the game at launch, despite some technical issues, but I’d certainly agree with the sentiment that the game felt increasingly grindy and unsatisfying following some of its updates throughout 2023. Fortunately, Fatshark has responded extremely well to community feedback, and the game appears to have been restored to a point where it can fulfill that potential with its most recent updates.
The Traitor Curse Part Two will be released in December and will expand on the new Carnival location introduced in Part One, as well as several new features and quality-of-life improvements. To begin, a new mission, ‘Warren 6-19,’ has you exploring the Moebian production facilities located in the Carnival’s back alleys.
You’ll notice four new Stimms on the field, each of which can provide you with different combat benefits: one restores health, one increases damage, one increases speed, and one causes your cooldowns to regenerate faster. Quartermaster Brunt also has new weapon variants, such as the ‘foldable Munitorum Mk III Sapper Shovel’ and the ‘Agripinaa Mk XIV Quickdraw Stub Revolver.’
There’s a new time-limited combat encounter with the Karnak Twins, as well as a slew of quality-of-life changes, including changes to the veteran talent tree that should make it easier to reach keystones. There’s also a mysterious redacted feature in the patch notes so stay tuned to find out what it is.
