The news is that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have now lost another major title to their launch window exclusives.
The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch lineup has already taken a major hit when Halo: Infinite was recently delayed and now another major title has been delayed .
The game in question is none other than the upcoming first-person shooter Crossfire X.
Crossfire X is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that is said to be similar to the likes of esports phenomenon Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The game has a free-to-play multiplayer component that is similar to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which sees two opposing teams, representing two hostile private military factions, compete in game modes to complete objectives.
The classic mode sees the attacking team attempting to plant a bomb while the defending team has to stop them. All players are equipped with standard weapons. The Spectre mode is a variation of the classic mode, though the attacking players are spectres, who are only equipped with knives but they can stay invisible when they are not moving.
The game is being developed by two studios. Remedy Entertainment, which developed the popular Control and Alan Wake is working on the Singleplayer campaign. While Smilegate Entertainment works on the free to play multiplayer. This highly anticipated game has now reportedly been delayed till 2021.
According to Crossfire X’s developers, the delay is due to unforeseen challenges and issues that were caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic. They also added though that the delay will allow the developers to deliver the experience that they set out to complete at the beginning of development, with no comprises.
The developers themselves stated in a recent Tweet:
“After much deliberation, and in consideration of the challenges faced by the Smilegate development team due to COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of Crossfire X to 2021,” reads the statement. “Moving our release window will allow us to deliver the Crossfire experience on console our team set to create. We’ll have more to share in the future.”
As you can see the Tweet is not forthcoming about a new expected release date and they have only given us a vague answer of 2021.
This is a blow to the Launch of the next-gen console but is to be expected as the Covid-19 Pandemic has no sign of slowing down at this moment in time. For those of you who have a new console and are anticipating the release of the latest upcoming games all we can do is wait and see.
