Taking a stroll to the earlier days as a young Bat…
Some key points that this game offers:
- Free to Explore Gotham City
- Side Missions
- Multiplayer Mode
- New Technology and gadgets
Gameplay & Controls:
Fluid and quite smooth! The game handles like a dream, whether you’re going up against an entire gang, or casually strolling down the streets of Gotham, the game and character controls are great. Hand to hand combat is very fast paced and quite entertaining to watch and perform. Combos and takedowns are just as great as you can imagine them to be.
Controlling batman is a breeze in all of its aspects, whether you are gliding over the city or taking the stealthy approach, the game handles every approach very well and accurate to ensure the ultimate experience.
Taking place eight years before the events of Batman Arkham Asylum, we play with a younger Batman. He has yet to refine himself into the Batman we know and love. He has yet to prove himself to those around him and himself.
It’s Christmas eve and the world’s deadliest assassins are out for your blood, killing you will earn them a $50 million bounty. Courtesy of the Black Mask, you set out to find him and bring him to justice. As you go about following the main campaign you can take on numerous side missions that are scattered throughout Gotham City. Other Super Villains are also out and about busy with their own nefarious deeds, so there is plenty more to do this time around.
Batman this time around also has character levelling. As you complete missions you will be awarded XP and once you level up you can invest points into your skill trees to improve your prowess. There are Close Combat upgrades, Invisible Predator Upgrades, and then Auxiliary Upgrades. These give you more than enough reason to track down and complete side quests.
Graphics:
Beautiful and full of detail. Gotham has been created to offer us a massive and beautiful open world to explore and play in. Whether you are on the ground running down the streets or scaling the rooftops there is incredible beauty to witness around every nook and cranny.
They got the lighting quite perfect with this one, that and the shadows totally enhance the visual quality of the game. Everything looks so much better and more realistic with the new and improved visuals.
Gliding over Gotham leaves you wanting… The city looks absolutely gorgeous in its dark eerie atmosphere. Character models were created impeccably well. There is so much attention to detail invested in each character that you can’t help but just take it all in, whether they are the bad guys or not!
Sounds:
As always, the sound is what makes the game in many a ways. The soundtrack here brings this game to life in so many ways. The fighting feels better and more fluid with the music enhancing the experience.
Gliding over Gotham with the sounds of the City that never seems to sleep or quiet down is quite the experience, something that wouldn’t be possible without its brilliant background music which makes it all possible.
Then last but not least is the perfect voice acting! The voice over artists took those brilliant scripts and brought these characters to life in such a fantastic way that it makes the game so much more surreal and entertaining. Everything feels more serious and on point and it is thanks to them and their great works.
Replayability:
The city is big and it will take you a while to nab every crook, criminal, and villain… Then there is that span of collectables that awaits you. You will be busy for several days here. Once that’s done you can always take things up a level and take on Gotham’s criminals on a higher difficulty.
This time around, there is a multiplayer mode, so you can take things online.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
The game had some serious issues when it came out, that is for sure. In some cases, it did ruin the Batman experience. However, whether you got past the issues or learned to live with it, the game ended up being pretty great and enjoyable.
We got to experience a younger Bruce Wayne and Batman, at a time before everything was in place and working the way batman got it to work. This experience was quite memorable to partake in as it unfolded in front of us. The new levelling mechanics brought some new and fresh concepts into the game which is always a welcome addition.
Arkham Origins sported a new mechanic where we could virtually recreate a crime scene to determine what happened and who was involved. Quite ingenious and on point for the world’s greatest detective. However, even though the game took place before the two previous titles, I would have liked to see some new and improved general gameplay mechanics.
Multiplayer was fun to a point, it wasn’t really something that particularly interested me, especially the type of multiplayer we had access to. The story line was written pretty well, and it played out quite great as well. The combination of events that unfolded as you progressed through the game kept everything interesting and captivating, you simply can’t wait to find out what happens next.
Boss battles though were quite a blast, we got to go up against some serious badasses, and as always, batman prevailed. All in all, still a decent Batman experience.
