Are you looking for an adventure? How about you settle for struggling to survive? Your odds are slightly better, but survivability…not so much, prepare to die…again and again…

Some key points that this game has to offer:

  1. No instructions, no manuals, no help…
  2. Every new adventure is different, each time you reset or start again a random world with random creatures, biomes and events are generated.
  3. Start with nothing but the clothing on your back, hunt scavenge and craft to survive.
  4. A Dark and whimsical universe and atmosphere.
  5. Several panels full of craftable equipment, gear and tools to make surviving easier.
  6. Complete sandbox mode, no missions or quests, you do what you want how you want and when you want to.

Friend or Foe?

Gameplay & Controls:

The game has full controller support for PC users so you have the option to map and change your load out, on keyboard and mouse you can use the keyboard for a bunch of options, from moving your character to selecting inventory items. The mouse can also be used for movement and inventory selection, as well as to complete other actions the game offers.

The gameplay is fairly simple with a difficulty setting that’s quite high but becomes bearable the more you play and learn. You start the game with Wilson as you wake up in this strange world and from the moment you get to control your character it is survive until you die… You collect basic materials which you use to craft tools and weapons so that you can harvest others materials.

Danger
This world is full of wonder…, dangerous wonders!

Graphics:

The graphics is a view from the top as you go about exploring the world you find yourself trapped in. The world you are trapped in or on, is fully 3D in rich vibrant colours to match the biome you find yourself on. The graphics for this game may not look like some of the other top tier graphics based games out there but the graphics for this game fits together perfectly, from the daylight setting to when it changes to evening with the setting changing to a darker aspect until night time hits and it becomes pitch black.

All these colours fit together perfectly bringing you a wonderful world that hates you and wants you dead.

Dead
At least they left us a parting gift.

Sounds:

Every action you perform has it owns sounds from picking grass and twigs to chopping trees and mining stone. Fighting bugs to hunting down Hell hounds, they all have their own unique sounds. Your character does not speak words but makes sounds when interacting or trying to interact with the world around you. Objects and events are accompanied by their own sounds as well.

The game has a very unique music style that plays in the background as you play the game setting the style and atmosphere for what is happening in this survival title.

Fire
Fire GOOD…

Replayability:

You have no choice, you will die a lot that is a given, the learning curve or just RNG catching you off guard will ensure several retries, but as you learn and get better you will survive longer and longer pushing those surviving days higher and higher, but should you die a scoring system will score you based on how long you survived, XP then is gained from this and as you gain XP you get to unlock new characters to play and survive with, so there is a reward for dying too, just survive long enough to die with some good XP.

Work
This is a very big world.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

This is a survival and crafting game like no other, it has a very steep but rewarding learning curve. You start out with no instruction manual or any help whatsoever; you are truly alone from the moment you wake up. Time is precious, you need to be cautious in what you do and where you explore, little Wilson is very vulnerable and most things will kill him in a matter of seconds or two or three blows, so you will still be off exploring and then suddenly meet your end and feel that rage build slightly , but that is part of this game, dying rewards you with XP for new characters, so expect to die, learn all you can, try different tricks and survival methods. Some of the most important aspects of this game is fresh food, you need a constant supply of food, and you can never run out of wood…

When night comes and there is no fire, a very special guest will visit you… be sure to have fire. As you explore and gather material you will have the options to lay down roots per say, crafting farmable plots to supply you with a constant means of food, among other craft able goodies that you can invest in to build you a little paradise in this nightmarish world. As I mentioned, this game is a complete sandbox game with no actual missions, you play it how you want to play it, doing what you want. It is just you and your wits on how to survive this world. There are random occurring events that you won’t always be prepared for but can endure or even survive. The hardest part usually comes when winter hits, being ready for winter should always be top priority making sure you have enough food stored up for winter since nothing grows during this period, so staying close to home and that fire of yours is the most vital aspects of this season.

Start
You got to start somewhere.

All in all, you will have a blast here, so go ahead and let’s see how far you can take it.

MGR Gaming Score 8
