It’s back and it’s bigger and better than ever before!
Some key points that this game offers:
- Upgraded Skill Tree
- Improved AI
- Settlements
- Improved Crafting system
- Brilliant Story line.
- Improved graphics and visuals.
- Survival Mode.
Gameplay & Controls:
The game can be played with either keyboard and mouse or game controller; There are numerous options to remap and customize how each of these options works for you. It comes down to personal preference here.
Chances are very good that you are here reading this because you are already a Fallout fan and you’ve been waiting for this marvel for a long time… For those that are new to the series. Fallout takes place decades into the future where mankind went ahead and nuked themselves into a post-apocalyptic era; You are left with the aftermath and your goal is to survive and live in what is left behind after the nukes fell.
Just as before, the world is your oyster; do and go wherever you want whenever you want to! There are hundreds of locations to discover and explore within Boston itself and its surrounding areas. New and old enemies can be found throughout the region. The skill tree has received a major overhaul this time around. You no longer start with a predefined number of S.P.E.C.I.A.L points instead you are given a x number and you define your character completely. The skills that can be learned are all divided into categories under S.P.E.C.I.A.L and as you level up you gain a perk point which can be used to invest into a skill; making it easier and more efficient to build your character.
Another major change with Fallout 4 is the settlements: This time around you can create settlements and take in survivors, giving them a job and a place to call home again. Build up your settlements and defend them against the hostiles of the commonwealth. With settlements comes numerous crafting benches with thousands of items that can be crafted to make Fallout 4 more unique and fun to play.
Graphics:
Jaw droppingly gorgeous; Everything that Fallout 4 has to offers is beautiful and pure eye candy to behold. A next generation graphics engine was used to create Fallout 4 and it did a marvelous job. The graphics of everything looks more realistic than ever before. Whether it is the fauna or flora that inhabits the land; everything is unique and very detailed to offer us a realistic appearance of the world of Fallout 4.
The lighting is another major element that was overhauled and to be frank, it does a perfect job of adding to the beautiful game world we have. Everything looks so vibrant and welcoming, even though it is a dangerous wasteland…. Character models and details are better than ever before. Facial features and expressions give characters a sense of aliveness like never before.
Under the settings panel we have numerous options to customize how Fallout 4 runs; it can be quite taxing on a system.
Sounds:
Brilliant, absolute joy to listen to; Characters have more in depth conversations and opinions that before. Character dialogues seems to be upgraded or added to as well with numerous dialogue options available. Radio stations are just as entertaining as ever.
The background music blends in perfectly with the game, making the journey that much more memorable. The in-game sounds do a marvelous job of bringing life to all the little things in this game.
Replayability:
Fallout 4 will and can keep you busy for days and weeks; you can easily sink 500 plus hours into this game, it all depend on how much you enjoy the franchise.
Two things are for certain here; numerous DLC’s are sure to follow to add even more to do in the game and then there is the new Survival mode that is bound to keep things interesting.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers ahead:
Fallout 4 is by far the best one to date. As always there is tons to do, explore and find in the game. There is no short amount of quest lines, side quests and miscellaneous quests so you can stay busy for days to come. A change of pace here would be the choices we get to make in game; as always, the game gives us a few options on how to go about finishing a quest.
This time around finishing a quest for a specific faction means that another faction will no longer be working with you. This leaves you with a new sense of careful consideration. The new survival mode should not be taken lightly; it will test you and if given a second’s chance, break you!
There is this and so so much more, but it is something beautiful that you must experience for yourself.
The only real issue I have here is that the settlements are extremely fun and it adds a lot to the game, however a few days in it does get tedious to have to set up new settlements or around them all to add a bed here or plants there. Having the inhabitants of a settlement help take care of it, expand it or at least just general maintenance would have made the mini game’s fun last a lot longer.
