Just you and your gun… it is the Mercenary life for us… Far Cry 2 takes you to Africa on the hunt for a deadly Arms Dealer…
Some key points that this game offers:
- Stunning visuals and life like rendering.
- Open World environment.
- Fire… the lifelike behaviour is just insane…
- Massive world to explore.
Gameplay & Controls:
Far cry 2 is a great step up from Far Cry 1. Not only in gameplay, but the mechanics and story basis itself has been drastically updated and changed.
The game plays just like an FPS, but in a massive Open World environment that is yours to explore and cause mayhem in. Set the low fields on fire and just watch it burn in a lifelike manner never seen before in any game.
There are guard posts stationed throughout the region, each can be scouted for Intel, there are also numerous Safe houses for you to claim that can be used to save and rest in. Several other buildings exist as well, such as the Bar where missions can be undertaken, or the Armory where you can equip the weapons you’ve been buying with your hard earned diamonds.

The game offers a large campaign with enough missions to keep you busy for a while, accompanying that are even more side quests and collectables that can be found. Doing quests for the Arms dealer unlocks new weapons that can be bought and added to your deadly arsenal.
The new buddy system is an impressive add on to the game, they can rescue you when you are about to die, offer you valuable support or intel on missions; a new but very intriguing mechanic indeed.
Graphics:
Absolutely breath-taking, Far Cry 1 was amazing but Far Cry 2 surpasses that by far, it truly comes across as before its time. Ubisoft Montreal did an outstanding job, delivering a simply beautiful game to us.
The realism and rendering were done beautifully; the movement of the tree’s, grass and other foliage are so appealing to watch. Water movement is another amazing aspect; the slightest obstruction in water clearly shows how the flow of water changes and that simply is amazing to witness.

Character detail has been done impeccably, every character, whether they are friend, foe or NPC looks unique in their own way, all beautifully designed, their movements and behaviour patterns are just as astonishing.
Every aspect of this game is beautiful, the open world is truly a sight to behold, whether it is the building or the wide open terrain, it has all been beautifully crafted for us.
Sounds:
The character voice overs were done just as beautifully, the voice acting for each character was performed very well, however at times it feels like the speech speed is a bit faster than what it should be thus making it harder to follow or listen to certain conversations or individuals.

In game sounds are on par with their visual and behavioural counterparts, from the various vehicles we drive and write off, to the weapons we fire, every sound fits in perfectly.
Replayability:
Far Cry 2, offers a large single player campaign that will take you a good deal of time to finish, then there are the numerous side quests and collectables that await you, thus giving you plenty to do.

Should you wish to take things online multiplayer awaits you.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
Far Cry 2 is a brilliant sequel in the series; it looks amazing runs amazing and is tons of fun to play. The weapon jam is a neat and another lifelike feature that has been added to the game giving us another unique aspect to contend with. The wide open plains, the sheer beauty, it all feels and plays so beautifully.
A lot of effort and detail went into creating this amazing game; it is however not without flaws. Flaws are understandable and acceptable to a point in any game.

My biggest issue I have is the guard post, you scout and clear it but next time you pass it the enemies are right back again, true that it gives you playtime, but getting from one end to the other to complete an objective requires so many stops due to these guard posts that by the time you do arrive you barely have ammunition left to do the job.
The main story line is downright confusing and not very captivating, it starts out well, but somewhere in the cruel atmosphere that the game delivers, and it gets lost, the faster than normal conversations do not make it any easier either. Nothing that you do really changes or alters anything in the game, there are supposed choices but the outcome stays the same.
Other than that, this game is near perfect and an absolute must play.
