There truly is no end to this nightmare!
Please note that this review may contain spoilers from the Base game
Some key points that this game add on has to offer:
- Three New Game Modes
- Ultimate New Difficulty
Replayability:
Ethan Must Die will keep you busy for quite some time… First off, you will need to get the hang of this uber new difficult game mode that will put your skills to the ultimate test. Expect to die a few times before clearing it. Once cleared do it all over again to beat your previous time. it is all about pitting your skills against a Permadeath mode… The other two add ons are in the form of tapes… You know the ones I’m talking about… Which character will we be playing as now?
Clancy, it is; You wake up in a bedroom handcuffed to a bed with Mamma Baker trying to feed you. Shortly after that, she takes her leave and you need to escape without alerting her to what you are doing. Last but not least is Nightmare; Not Mercenaries at all, but full on survival! Jack has locked you in the basement and you have to survive until Dawn…
Nightmare plays off in waves, you have to survive five waves of enemies, each getting more difficult than the previous. This mode works with a currency system and scrap as the currency. Scrap is used to buy weapons, ammo, and other goodies to aid you in the onslaught. There are also skills that you can buy to enhance your prowess; skill such as increased health restoration, or increased weapon damage. Throughout the level, you will come across compactors that make scrap. These you have to manually start and collect the scrap from as they fill up.
This game mode offers the most in terms of replay value. Winning or losing rewards you with a score and as your score points, you unlock new recipes and other bonuses that you can make use of the next time you play this game mode. Nightmare is considered the standard version of this game mode, once completed you unlock the Night Terror version, which is much harder.
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Banned Footage Vol.1 Contents:
- Nightmare
- Bedroom
- Ethan Must Die
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
The Bedroom is a fun DLC the first time around, but with little to no reason to replay it, it pretty much dies there. Ethan Must Die, however, is an entirely different story… Fun, difficult, and challenging as hell. They took a piece of the game and changed it up to give you a mini campaign with familiar territory all reconfigured with the task of taking down Mamma baker…
Much harder than it sounds, enemies hit harder, and resources are scarce! There are traps, monsters, and a whole variety of other goodies waiting on you in Ethan Must Die! A true test of your skills for sure. If you die, you restart all over again. The best version of this DLC has to be Nightmare, and even though it isn’t Mercenaries mode, it is something quite fun in its own right.
The best part is that it sticks to the terrifying horror experience that the rest of the game offers. The same goes for the other two Game Modes. Nightmare will have you playing it over and over again to rack up those score points. With every new unlock comes new rewards… Increased starting scrap, more weapons to craft and make use of along with a variety of other recipes and goodies. The skills they added here add a brilliant touch to the mode.
If you manage to keep the scrap going the skills gives you more than a fighting edge for sure
