New
New and improved!

Design:

Designed to offer it all. Comfort and pure viewing pleasure. This beauty gives you all of that and so much more. You have Samsung’s iconic 1800R curved display in full view. The front of the screen has a semi-gloss finish to it. It blends perfectly well with what is on the screen itself.

Another new feature that accompanies this model, is the V shaped stand. In a way it makes the screen itself more stable due to the V Stand being so big. It pretty much shares the same length as the screen. This does not really feel like an improvement in design, especially when wall mounting is not possible for this model either.

Behind
Behind the hood!

The cable input has received an upgrade, instead of the old design where we merely push the cables into the required port facing the front, this time around you push the cables in, in an upwards manner, which reduces tension on the cables when the screen is up close against the wall.

Performance & Gaming:

As always, you can rest assured that Samsung will deliver on its promises. This time around it was with their 178° viewing angle on both the left and right. They not only delivered this but they pretty much stepped up their game.

A
A view from the side!

Featuring a 144Hz refresh rate, coupled with a Resolution of 1920 x 1080, this is a screen that will give you pure viewing bliss. Another amazing feature this time around is the 3000:1 Contrast Ratio; not only upgrading your visuals but taking them to an entirely new level. The clarity is much greater than before; Blacks are deeper, and whites are much brighter, with more levels of shades in between which enhances the visual quality.

There is no more hiding in dark corners, this beauty will allow you to spot them anywhere, no matter how dark the spot! The AMD Freesync feature is really going to blow you away! It will open up a whole new level of quality and visual marvel for you to behold I used this screen with an MSI Radeon™ RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC. The overall improvement in quality is amazing. The 144Hz refresh rate further adds to the visual quality that the screen has to offer. The HDMI 1.4 ports are a massive step up from previous models.

V-Shape
A rather massive stand.

Unfortunately, the 24RG50FQ does not support HDR, but frankly I do not see this as a lacking feature. Developers spend a great deal of time to perfect the colours and atmospheres in their games and experiencing them as is, makes the experience much more memorable and authentic in most cases.

User Friendly & Functionality:

A neat feature that the screen has, is built-in presets for a variety of game Genre’s; Such as RPG games or FPS games. Simply set it to the chosen genre and the entire screen will transform to offer you the best possible optimized settings for the maximum gaming experience. Even though these presets might seem like a drag at first, one thing they excel at is reducing eye strain

Just
More than just gorgeous!

Coupled with Eye Saver Mode the 24RG50FQ will ensure that you can game for longer whilst keeping your eyes relaxed and comfortable. It also features Flicker-Free technology which further adds to the comfort when playing for long periods of time. This feature constantly removes screen flickering which not only makes the viewing more comfortable but also ensures you can focus on those quick sniping shots!

Under the hood, or should I say behind the hood is a button we can press to bring up the settings menu for the 24RG50FQ. Here we have a rather large selection of settings that can be adjusted and set to your preference. Another unique feature that comes with the 24RG50FQ is a virtual aim point which places a crosshair on your screen.

On
On the Fly changes can be made!

The screen also has a self-diagnose feature for you to make use of if need be.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

If you are a Samsung fan, then this is a must-buy through and through. However, given how 144Hz monitors are popping up these days, the 24RG50FQ does not really stand out among its competitors.

Stylish
She is a looker.

In all honesty, it is rather a tad expensive when you consider that it does not really offer any special or unique features. The fact here is that some of the other competitor screens offer faster refresh rates and lower response times at a cheaper price.

It is still a decent gaming screen nonetheless, and the curved screen feature still remains very pleasing to look at. With Samsung, you know what you buy and you can be assured that your hardware will not simply fail on you.

Wow
Wow, Just Wow!

At the end of the day it will come down to your personal preference, as much as I love Samsung screens, there are better screens out there with more competitive pricing as well. If you shop around, you might find one that features even more if not better gaming features.
