- Indie Gem 5/5
Gameplay & Controls:
Submerged can be played with a controller or the keyboard and mouse. Either method works brilliantly with the game, it comes down to which method you are comfortable with.
You arrive in a flooded city on a tiny fishing boat with your brother badly injured; from there you start scouring the city in search of supplies to save him. What we have here is a third-person combat free marvel that tells a beautiful story to the player.
You travel through the entire city on boat, searching for these much-needed supplies. To help with your search, you make use of your telescope to spot supplies and as you search for these supplies you might just find other hidden secrets that colour in the picture of what happened here.
On your travels you will experience and witness how the habitat that inhabits these waters flourishes making the journey that much more memorable.
Graphics:
The visuals behind Submerged are absolutely gorgeous, every scalable building has been creatively designed to offer us a dual take on what the world use to look like and what it looks like now. The flora that have sprouted up over the buildings, growing wildly doesn’t just add greenery to the worlds, but it livens it up and makes the experience that much more.
The fauna living in the city is another warm welcome to the story, it adds scenery to the city and liveliness.
Under the hood we have several settings to adjust the game settings.
Sounds:
Brilliant, the game and its atmosphere are so vibrant and relaxing that you simply can’t get enough of it. The soundtrack thoroughly enhances this memorable experience. The music makes traveling through the city so much more pleasant and enjoyable.
Replayability:
Submerged might not have much replay value, but the journey it offers can be enjoyed more than once. Submerged flooded city is full of secrets and boat upgrades just waiting on you to be found.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers ahead:
Submerged was developed by a small independent studio, but the developers are all veterans with AAA titles under their belts from games such as the BioShock Series. And to be frank, it shows quite clearly, Submerged might be a small game but what it stands for and what it presents is pretty Large.
The game paints a pretty clear picture; telling you the story of what happened and what caused Miku and her younger brother to come to the city. As you learn that story another story gets told.
The exploration of the city truly is a marvel; whether it is done during the day or night, the scenery stays beautiful and memorable.
Submerged is a small indie gem, but it paints one massive picture setting a new standard for Indie developers.
