Prepare yourselves accordingly, the adventure is much bigger than you can imagine…. Much bigger indeed!
Some key points that this game offers:
- Massive Open World to explore
- Sandbox Atmosphere; You choose which mission to start and in what order you play the game!
- Incredibly detailed environment
- Brilliant Story line to experience
- Ultimate Co-op experience
Gameplay & Controls:
Pack spare everything, the mission is bigger than ever before!
The controls can be reconfigured to our personal preference which is always a plus and to be expected these days.
The character handling is quite smooth and on point, with quick response to commands. This actually goes both ways; Ai control and commands work just as well and their actions are quite decently configured. Whether you set them to hold or attack, they follow and commit to these commands quite tactfully which actually makes them a useable perk in the game when not playing online. The only pet peeve I have here is the lack of combat role. Given the nature and type of game, this is, that is a feature that needs to be part of the game.
As with most games that are not vehicle-based, vehicle controls are never that great, they are useable at best, the same can be said here. It is not that its bad, it is fun and adds to the experience, it’s just plain and simple.
On to the fun bits…
The Santa Blanca cartel took control of Bolivia with one goal. To turn it into a narco state, and to accomplish that they made one grave mistake. They tortured and murdered a DEA Agent, so Uncle SAM decided to send in the big guns… As Nomad you will be leading a squad of Ghosts with the sole purpose of destroying the Santa Blanca cartel.
By Land, Air, or Water, assault your enemies using a variety of vehicle types. There are a variety of aircraft to make use of, attack choppers packing Gatling guns or missiles! Use a plane to fly over and parachute out, or a frontal assault with an LMG mounted pickup truck! The choice is yours entirely!
Go at its full stealth taking your enemies down one at a time or go big and loud as you destroy anything that moves. The gameplay allows almost complete freedom of choice, and it caters to said freedom pretty well. There is ample opportunity to play totally stealth throughout most missions if you prefer. The game world, the mechanics, and level designs almost always allow for it if you have the patience. It goes both ways though if you like head on assault with those AR’s dropping the bullets, the game has you covered.
Albeit an open world game, it does the job pretty well of offering a realistic shooter experience to a point. Bullet and gun mechanics are pretty impressive and accurate. The variety of upgrades and attachments for your weapons is a neat feature that allows you to completely kit out your favourite weapons.
Graphics:
Brilliantly done! Given the size of this game world, it goes without saying that they did an impressive job to bring this world to life! It is beautiful, vibrant and so welcoming that you can’t help but admire the sheer beauty and marvel that is Wildlands Bolivia!
They created a span of biomes that we will be exploring and playing in! From deserts, sandy planes, salt and snow flats to thick jungle areas, and more! Each of these areas have been beautifully created to offer you a very realistic experience of what these biomes would be like. To further add to these impressive areas is the day and night cycle. The atmosphere changes around you constantly as time ticks on, it gets lighter and lighter as it gets darker and darker, further improving the quality and experience.
To top it off are the stunning weather effects. When it rains it doesn’t just pour! There are gorgeous thunder storms and howling winds to further improve your experience. Leopard crawl into a base as the rain pours down all around you… The experience is absolutely incredible!
Every region was created with such attention to detail that the environment itself feels so real, it is quite remarkable. Desert flats don’t just look endless as you stare into them, they feel it too and that’s because the level of detail that was invested into creating it. This goes for every other region. So much attention was invested that these areas look above and beyond amazing.
Character creation was done just as well, whether it is the random NPC’s scattered throughout the game world or the armies of enemies you will be taking on. They invested just enough to ensure that every character model is unique in appearance and behaviour to add to the overall experience.
Your ghosts were modelled pretty well, they each have their own unique personal traits and backgrounds with personalities which makes the use and experience with them so much more.
Sounds:
Without the brilliant soundtrack and in game sounds, this game would not be what it is! The soundtrack totally enhances the experience and makes it so much more memorable.
Then there is the background music and sounds that bring life to this massive and incredible world. It just makes the experience so much more that you at times can’t help but just stand there and take it all in!
The voice over artists did a fantastic job bringing their characters to life. Whether the situation was serious, humoristic, or just random banter. They brought it to life brilliantly.
Replayability:
Wildlands is all about Replayability, missions can be replayed solo or with friends. Invite some friends and take on the cartel with your buddies at your side.
There is also matchmaking if you prefer random squadmates. Take down convoys together, complete or replay missions, or track down all those tedious collectables… Wildlands has a lot more to offer and even more to come.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
In many ways, Wildlands is the next big thing! It is a fantastic open world shooter that makes use of a variety of other mechanics to enhance its gameplay and experience. The RPG system that levels your character up which in turn gives you access to new abilities and skills that you can unlock.
The exploration and sightseeing value of this game is absolutely amazing. It is probably one of the elements that lessen the tedious nature of having to explore the entire place in search of all the collectables… A boring tradition that Ubisoft just does not let go of.
The gameplay is amazing and the freedom to choose how you take a mission on and when makes this a fantastic experience and game to play. The story line was written very well. It is entertaining, captivating and an absolute blast to experience and play out.
The online gameplay of the game is pretty decent if you have mates to play with or if you prefer randoms. However, the ai squad mates are decent back up to have at your side and their command options really do help taking the game on solo. Sync shot is back and better than ever! Having the option to take down multiple enemies silently with your squad is a very fun experience.
Or trigger a remote detonation and blow up a squad with your drone…, the choice is yours and that’s what makes wildlands so fun and entertaining.
