EA is scrapping BioWare points making Dragon Age and Mass Effect DLC free for PC users.
For those who aren’t aware EA has been using a currency system called BioWare Points to pay for DLC for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age on PC.
While PC gamers have long been required to acquire BioWare points at inconvenient exchange values, console players have been allowed to purchase content in piecemeal through the relevant Sony and Microsoft shops.
EA announced this news via e-mail to users with BioWare points still in their accounts. The email stated:
“We’re reaching out to let you know that starting October 11, 2022, BioWare Points will no longer be available as a form of currency in the Origin store. Other currencies like Crystals and Platinum in other BioWare titles remain unaffected.”
The e-mail ends with the statement:
“Don’t worry — you’ll still have access to any content previously purchased using BioWare Points. We’re here to support you if you have any questions on this, just reach out to EA Help.”
As a result, some Classic BioWare RPG add-ons that were previously exclusively accessible through the use of BioWare points will now be available for free.
You can now Select the titles in your library, click on Extra Content, and then choose to Get it Free for each one to get DLC for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition already has all the single-player DLC included but if you own the original versions of Mass Effect 2 and 3 you are able to get the essential expansions Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel for free too.
Do note though that Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer DLC packs aren’t free, but if you so wish you can use your remaining BioWare Points on these for the next three months while the points are still valid. After the three months, you will need in-game credits to purchase these packs.
This is big news for fans of Dragon Age and The Mass Effect franchise that will be losing its main source of currency but the good news is that some of this content will now be free so if you are smart you will go and grab your free content now.
