Back for more butt-kicking and gun-wielding, August 2020 sees the release of the fourth installment of the Serious Sam series, following on from Serious Sam 3: BFE.
“Serious Sam 4 reignites the classic FPS series in a high-powered prequel loaded with an explosive arsenal, intergalactic carnage, and perfectly timed one-liners.” – Steam
It has been almost a decade since the last game and SS4 had only been announced twice; once in 2014, and again in 2018. Fans may wonder what is the point of such a long pause in release when it seems like the game will just be more of the same thing? Well, according to Croteam, the new Legion system used for the game has allowed for an onslaught of thousands of enemies in a single wave.
You read that right! Thousands. And, judging from gameplay previews, the visuals are very satisfying – it brings to mind an MMORPG where the hero is rushed by a huge mass of enemies to single-handedly thwart. Take that imagery; place it in an FPS scenario and boom! Who doesn’t enjoy going berserk in an FPS designed to allow it?
Serious Sam 4 will also introduce new weapons and a few new gnarly faces to shoot at along with the old familiar Headless Kamikaze, Beheaded Rocketeer, and Werebull.
This title is set to release in 2020 for PC and in 2021 for console. 2021?! Sadly yes… another year for console gamers. Devolver Digital, the publisher for Croteam, stated that a period of exclusivity with Stadia is in place for the games release, and a cross-gen release can only happen once that period is over. Steam users needn’t stress either: Serious Sam 4 will be available via Steam.
So as to quote the man himself, “gimme some skulls, and one of these, and it’s a party!”
