Rockstar Requires Full-Time Office Return For GTA 6 Team As Game Nears Completion

Security and Productivity Prioritized in Final Stretch of Highly Anticipated Sequel’s Development

Rockstar Games is mandating that developers working on GTA 6 return to the office five days a week as the highly anticipated sequel enters its final stages of development.

In an email obtained by Bloomberg, Jenn Kolbe, Rockstar’s Head of Publishing, outlined the plan for GTA 6 developers to resume in-office work starting in April. The decision is primarily motivated by concerns regarding productivity and security, particularly in response to significant leaks that have plagued the game’s development.

Security remains a paramount concern for Rockstar following a major leak in September 2022, which prematurely disclosed numerous videos and images related to GTA 6. This leak incurred substantial costs and disrupted the development process, resulting in significant repercussions for the responsible individual. Moreover, the recent leakage of the GTA 6 trailer ahead of its official unveiling in December underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the studio.

Kolbe emphasized the tangible benefits of in-office collaboration, noting that Rockstar has observed notable improvements in productivity when developers work on-site. She highlighted the importance of delivering GTA 6 at the level of quality and polish expected by fans, as well as aligning the publishing roadmap with the game’s ambitious scope and scale.

Despite the company’s rationale, reports suggest that some employees are dissatisfied with the decision to mandate a return to the office.

GTA 6 was officially announced in November, with a scheduled release window for 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Set in the iconic locale of Vice City, the game promises to redefine the boundaries of open-world gaming, offering players an immersive experience that pushes the limits of technology and creativity.
