Rookeys is a relatively new company born out of necessity but bred with passion for Gaming.
Rookeys custom keycaps was started by Izan Groenewald, a front end software developer and a big gamer, who found himself (as many other people have in this Pandemic) being retrenched and in need of work, he, in turn, decided to use his retrenchment package to purchase a 3D printer. This coupled with his 3D modeling experience gave him the tools he needed to start what has become a unique and exciting new concept. Customized Keycaps to fit most mechanical keyboards.
The idea came to him after one of his friends had purchased a 3D printer and it sparked an idea. Izan realized that there was a deficit in this country for customized keycaps as these were usually imported at great cost to the buyer and would take a long time to arrive. So, using his 3D modelling skills and a 3D printer he started to design a keycap with no design just to fit his keyboard.
After a few attempts, he got the perfect fit and the 1st custom key was born, this key happened to be a DOTA 2 key. He was so happy with it that this sparked his idea into a fully-fledged business. MGR Gaming asked Izan what his vision was for the company and he replied that his “vision would be to make Rookeys a big deal in the gaming world one day.”
The keycaps Rookeys creates are only limited by your imagination. Each keycap is hand-painted with meticulous attention to detail, and there is also the option to paint your own keycap if you are so inclined.
