The first game, according to narrative director Igor Sarzynski, was “just a warm-up”
With the holiday season behind us, people are getting back to work, including the CD Projekt Red team, which is kicking off the new year by starting work on Project Orion, aka Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel.
Tweets from Cyberpunk 2077’s narrative director Igor Sarzyski and quest director Pawe Sasko reveal that work on the next game in the dystopian sci-fi series has begun in earnest, with the two expressing their excitement for what’s to come.
“So good to meet old friends and officially kickstart our Orion journey,” SarzyĆski said. “I couldn’t be more excited for this project and I’m sure we can make it something special.
And it appears that the team has big plans for the follow-up, as Sarzyski concludes his post by describing the first game as “just a warm-up.”
Meanwhile, Sasko claims that the CD Projekt Red core team kicked off the year with “exciting discussions” about the next Cyberpunk 2077 game. “Love this team and our dystopian IP!” they continue.
Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077’s sole expansion, was released in September of last year and, according to its creators, performed just as well as The Witcher 3’s Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine DLC, despite the lengthy gap between Cyberpunk 2077’s release and the expansion’s arrival, as well as the base game’s notoriously rocky launch.
CD Projekt Red, on the other hand, has managed to turn things around spectacularly, and its road to redemption culminated not only in Phantom Liberty but also in the impressive 2.0 Update, which adds a slew of new features to the main game, including revamped perks and cyberware, as well as vehicular combat.
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in October 2022, with CDPR stating that it will “prove the full power and potential of the Cyberpunk universe, and given what the team has already accomplished, that’s certainly cause for excitement.”
