Valheim Passes 500k Concurrent Players
Valheim’s popularity has increased exponentially since its release only three weeks ago and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
Valheim is the Viking game that has exploded on the scene and it only in Early Access. The game is developed by Swedish company Iron Gate Studio. This incredible game was made by only five people but they have reported to PC Gamer that they will be hiring more people from now on.
The premise of the game is that players are Vikings in an afterlife where they have to craft tools, build shelters and fight enemies to survive. The game uses stylized 3D graphics with a third-person perspective and a combat system inspired by action games. Co-operative gameplay with up to nine people and optional PvP gameplay is also supported.
Here is the official trailer for Valheim :
Valheim has been so popular that it sold 3 million copies in its first 17 days after launching on Steam. The fans love it so much that on Sunday there were more than 500,000 players playing the game simultaneously according to SteamDB.
According to the Steam, Charts Valheim has reached the no.5 slot on its way to become the most played game on Steam. From the number five slot to number four will be a little harder though as the jump is up to 830,000 players from 500,000. PUBG hit its peak at 3.2million concurrent players in 2018.
Only four other titles have ever achieved the concurrent peak of 500,000 players and these are PUBG, CS: GO, Dota 2, and Cyberpunk 2077.
As it stands Valheim is beating Team Fortress 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Apex Legends, and Rust for concurrent players on Steam.
In a statement to PC Gamer, the developers of Valheim said: “The Iron Gate team wanted to share one more big thank you to everyone who has already joined us on this exciting journey of mythological proportions. To keep up with the old Norse references, this is now equivalent to 74,319 longhouses stuffed with Vikings singing songs and celebrating victory with some great tasting mead, so. SKÅL!”
Iron Gate seems very pleased with their accomplishment as well they should be. Reaching these milestones is really nothing to sneeze at and if these trends are any indication, then we will be seeing Valheim exceed a lot more expectations on their way to the top spot.
