Darksiders Review

Strap in, you are in for the ride of your life as War sets out…

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Brilliant Story Line
  2. Impressive Visuals and lighting effects
  3. Character Progression
  4. Epic Boss Fights

Gameplay & Controls:

The game handles like a dream Whether you are playing on console or PC. I have played Darskiders on both Xbox 360 and PC and I can truly say that the experience on both were absolutely amazing. Controller configuration is superb and the game handles and plays like a dream. Your trusty keyboard and mouse will not fail you either. The game plays just as smooth and fluid on the PC. You can customize and rebind your keys if you need to. The game also offers some controller support, it depends on the controller type you use.

Answering the call, you fulfil your duty, and ride brining about the apocalypse…

Horseman
Here they come!

You are War, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who has set out on a journey to clear his name and find the ones responsible for brining doom to the third kingdom.

The game is a Semi-Open world experience. To unlock new areas, you will have to progress the main story line to unlock newer areas. You can revisit previously cleared areas as well. This is mainly to find items or secrets you missed the first time around, or were unable to obtain or open before.

As War progresses through the game you will increase in power by increasing your life and wrath bars. Your weapons also gain experience as you defeat enemies with them unlocking new abilities and moves. The combat for the game is pretty decent and fun. It is pretty much your average Hack and Slash with some Epic combos and finishers. Plus, you are literally one of the Horseman of the Apocalypse, making it ten times more fun and awesome.

Boss
Boss fight this way!

War has a pretty deadly arsenal at his disposal once he starts collecting them. With each new area you unlock you are also met with new mechanics and requirements and you make use of your newly acquired weapons and abilities to beat or meet these requirements. There are some fun puzzle mechanics and platforming to do, but nothing that is overly difficult or complicated. It is one fun filled experience to seek out and explore every nook and cranny of this apocalyptic world.

Graphics:

More than just impressive! The colours and themes were brilliantly designed to offer us a visual marvel that doesn’t just look pretty but offers beauty in everything it does. No matter where you are there are tons of beaty to be seen. Early mornings or dark nights. There is beauty in everything.

The game blends are shadows and lighting very well to further enhance the visuals of the game; it is the little things after all! The entire game is one massive world that is so vibrant and filled so bright and unique colours and themes, you can’t help but be amazed by the living art style that the game has to offer.

Come
Come to War!

Character models were also created quite decently, with unique appearances and behaviours for every enemy type. NB NPC’s received a whole lot more attention and it is clearly visible through their marvelous characteristics and detailed appearances.

Sounds:

Superb, absolutely amazing! The Soundtrack makes this game so much more enticing! It not only entertains you, but it captivates you! The Soundtrack was chosen well for the game.

I
I don’t think he is going to make it!

The background sounds bring the game world to life and enhances the overall experience immensely. Voice over artists did a fantastic job with their characters and lines, ensuring they bring their characters to life.

Replayability:

Darsksiders may not have multiplayer or co op mode but it has quite the replay value nonetheless. You can always replay the game on a higher difficulty once you had your fun with story mode.

New
New Gear awaits…

Completing your playthrough though will keep you busy seeing as there are numerous collectables and secrets to find hidden throughout the world as well.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

Through and through a masterful game! They did an absolutely fantastic job bringing the Horseman of the Apocalypse to life with this game. The lore, the story line and the execution are pretty much perfect. I want more, I simply couldn’t get enough of Darksiders.

Soon
Soon to be dead…

The Boss fights were an absolute blast, the world is gorgeous and so welcoming and then there is War! Loyal and honourable to a fault! The journey you two undertake to prove his innocence is so memorable and captivating it just leaves you wanting more! The deeper mystery and conspiracy that takes place makes the entire experience that much more enticing,

Level design and layout is pretty decent and fun to explore. It is never that difficult or complicated, it offers the right amount of challenge and excitement. The hidden secrets and chests aren’t that hard to find or open once you retrieve the proper tools either. World navigation is simple and quite an enjoyable experience. They pretty much executed this game and its mechanics really well to ensure there is an abundance of fun to be had. As a new game and new franchise, I can’t criticize it for what it doesn’t have yet. However, I would like to see more side quests, and a bigger more open world to explore… But what we have is totally amazing so far!

Take
Take that!

This game and franchise have so much potential and there is so much room for it to grow and expand. I can’t wait to see where they are going to go with this game…
