Infested Planet Review

Infested Planet is a defensive game taken to a whole new level, with tons of creativity, fun and RTS mechanics just the way we love and desire with unique add ons making this game a must have.

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. RTS- with combat mechanics unlike you’ve ever experienced before.
  2. A very enjoyable campaign that will get greater and harder as you move forward.
  3. Fight thousands and thousands of enemies all at once.
  4. More than 20 devastating human weapons and buildings to utilize and help lead you to victory.
  5.  33 Alien mutations to experience during gameplay to keep things fresh and on the go.
  6. Hours and hours of fun and entertainment.
War
There is a lot of fighting that needs doing.

Gameplay & Controls:

Not only does this game offer us grand gameplay, it has some very decent controls to make use of while we fend off thousands of enemy mobs all at once. All soldier commands are tied to a specific keyboard button giving you those instant command options, saving you from having to use the mouse to navigate to and from it, they can also be changed and bound to your choice of keys.

The game has the option where you can choose how many CPU cores to use which is tied to the AI swarms to ensure that the game runs smoothly as the enemy numbers rise and rise. We have extra settings for the mouse such as making the cursor move faster. The game offers several other settings that you can explore and test out making your experience unique the way you prefer it.

Big
They will all die.

The game itself has the campaign/ story mode where you are in control of a small band of mercenaries working for the military in helping them secure, stop and execute missions to ensure the successful takeover of the planet; yeah, your job is to stomp out the aliens who rightfully live on the planet. Then there is Skirmish for some quick instant action against the alien hordes, with its own sections and features to make it just as enjoyable.

Last but not least, the game has another category called the weekly challenge where you can partake in a number of challenges to obtain scores to hit that grand number One spot on the leaderboard. Playing the story mode with Drake’s devils where you complete missions and tasks and once the mission is completed you earn cash for the tasks you have completed, certain in-mission elements will reward you with more cash for completing them. The cash you make is then used in the shop section where you buy upgrades for your soldiers increasing their health and damage; other upgrades can also be bought for buildings, with some upgrades leading to unlock new weapons or buildings to use during your missions. The cash can also be used to buy a one time use boost for the next mission you go on, such as an extra squad mate giving you the ability to have more units.

As for the gameplay now, your trusty mouse is needed where like many other strategy games you can click and drag the mouse to select all your units, or double click, once selected you command them by right clicking on where to move to or what to attack. As you play missions your team starts at one node captured by your squad, other nodes are usually held by the aliens, and until destroyed they keep on spawning more aliens.

Fight
Fight to the last man!

Your task is to break through the hordes of aliens and the attack and destroy the building, then leaving your units over the node so that you can capture it and make use of it, captured nodes gives you BP which you can use to recruit more marines as your fall in battle or BP can be used to upgrade marines, or buy new weapons for them to use.

Graphics:

The graphics for the game are splendidly done, we have a full variety of resolution options to choose from, including Full screen or Window mode, other than that we have full options on the graphics side of things; the game can be run in a number of world details from Low to Max.

The game looks good, we have an overhead look of things with the option to zoom in and out as we play to better and carefully plan our moves. The game levels might not look that grand in design but the gameplay makes up for more than enough for it.

Hold

The Level details come together very nicely with the world, the movable lanes all bright and easy to navigate with the outlying areas darkened out, clearly portraying where we can and can’t go. The character design is very simply done, and as you upgrade each unit to a specific weapon type you can clearly see the difference between the types of units. The different building types you build and go up against all have their own unique designs.

Sounds:

We have full options and control over the sound and volume of the game. As for the game itself, the sounds for weapon firing, issued commands and other in game related voice overs and sounds are all original or what we’d expect from this type of game, the background music comes together nicely while you and your squad moves from node to node destroying aliens left right and centre.

Boss
Got to love a boss fight.

Replayability:

The game has replay value, not just to better yourself by taking on the campaign mode on higher difficulties but also with its skirmish mode where you can tailor custom fights to your liking and then exterminate even more aliens.

Then there is that fancy weekly event I mentioned briefly, if skirmish is a bit too boring for you , you can go there and put your mettle to the test as you go up against players from around the world in completing specific missions on a weekly basis all to gain points for the leader board to see who manages Drake’s devils the best.

Shot
War triggered.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

Although not a top tier game it surely isn’t bottom tier either, Infested Planet delivers a great Strategy game with RTS elements, RPG like gameplay, strategy like and even defensive gameplay all down to Tower Defense, and it doesn’t feel cluttered or like a mix and mash it all comes together beautifully all the way from the game detail, to the actual gameplay.

The story line isn’t that deep or extraordinary but it suits the purpose of telling us why we are here, what we are here for and how to get there, and that is more than enough for this game. This is a small game that packs a mighty punch, and it does so by delivering an amazing game that will bring us countless hours of joy, it has the perfect stepping stones leading to a sequel.

Need
They need an bigger army!

You command Drake’s Devils, a squad of mercenary’s here on the planet alien if you may, here to score the big bucks in helping the military settle the planets alien problem. You work with a not so smart general and a scientist who helps to figure out how the aliens operate and what their capabilities are and their intent.

Mission to mission you are tasked with specific instructions that you need to complete to win the scenario, and as you progress things gets harder and harder and the alien mobs get bigger and bigger and even bigger than bigger, pack spare ammo.
