Aesthetics:
She is an absolute looker… Elegant, sophisticated, and downright sexy, a deadly combination worthy of the name BlackWidow. She’s a big one, a full mechanical keyboard that sports digital and numeric pads.
The optional wrist rest adds actually to the overall look of the Widow, I’d go as far as to say she looks better with it than without… As she idle sits there on your mat waiting to be used, you can easily spend a few minutes just appreciating the detail that went into creating this marvel…
That thick braided cable, adds to her deadly looks, showing she’s serious and ready to do what needs doing… Once plugged in, everything changes. Supporting Razers Chroma, you have the means to customize the Widow accordingly adding a spectrum of lighting effects to your heart’s content…
Comfort:
The Widow can be laid down flat if that is your style, if you prefer a more angled approach; the Widow has got you covered too. The wrist rest as I briefly mentioned is optional. It clips on magnetically so you have the option to use or put it away when you feel like it.
Using the Widow itself is a dream. Sure, it’s a plastic and aluminium keyboard like every other one out there, but it’s not! This is the BlackWidow… Keys feel smoother to touch, the wrist wrest supports your palms or wrist with ease making the experience seem effortless.
Last but not least, those keys, such a poetic flair, the Widow sports herself with some Razer Green Switches; adding to the overall feel of the switches.
Durability:
Not the first Widow I have owned, definitely an updated and improved model for sure. If this one is anything like the previous one, I owned, you can bet that she was built to last. Keys are extra durable with an estimate of up to 80 million keystrokes… A very impressive number for sure. The plate itself has been made from a military-grade plate to ensure durability will never be questioned.
Speaking of keys, the Widow’s green switches; the new evolved mechanical switch has been taken a step further. They now come equipped with dual sides to offer greater stability, increased protection against dust and liquids, further adding to the lifespan that it has to offer.
The braided cable itself has been braided to offer protection to the cables themselves. As it stands, the Widow is a deadly piece of hardware that will be your trusted companion for years to come.
User Friendly & Functionality:
Plug and Play to a sense yes. Once plugged in Razer Central will download the required drivers for your keyboard and once installed, the fun can begin. The widow offers a broad range of features.
Offering a USB 2.0 and audio pass-through on the side makes it easier for you to quickly connect a USB device or even a headset or mic if needed. The Widows cable comes equipped with 2 USB cables and an audio cable, thus the keyboard itself can be used as an audio pass-through if needed.
With the Widow, every key can be a Macro key; “Hypershift lets you activate macros or other secondary functions while keeping your base keys intact”. Now, this is what I call next-level sophistication, allowing you to take customization and personalization to a whole new level. Whether it is for working or gaming, the Widow will enhance your output and performance.
The media keys allow for easy control when watching a movie or listening to some music, easily play, pause or skip a track. The volume dial also allows you to turn the volume up or down.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
As someone who has owned a Widow before, I unboxed this one knowing what to expect. However, I can still say that I was more than just quite surprised. The Widow has evolved and gotten a lot more advanced with each new model. The overall layout and design of this one is absolutely gorgeous. She looks downright beautiful. Whether the lights or on or not!
The additional features like the Audio passthrough and USB port make her so much more usable and wanted. The new and improved switches will truly make her outlast her predecessors for sure. The added liquid protection is another massive upsize in durability… Liquids do not work well with tech, but it is something that is present, especially during intense gaming sessions where stopping to take a break does not happen.
Hypershift, now that’s is through and through next-level stuff and I absolutely love it. The media keys add some further ease of access to our lives here. All in all, I am absolutely in love with the Elite Widow… She is an absolute keeper!
