Aesthetics:
Sporting the ROG eye that’s clearly visible on the mouse pad, always adds a nice touch to your ROG Gear. Especially so when you have a complete ROG setup. Eyes everywhere!
The Balteus also comes with RGB adding some additional lighting to your system.
The mouse pad itself has a very pleasing look to it. It’s a hard textured surface that works well with the black finish on the mouse pad itself. The stitching was done very neatly not only adding to its durability but also adding to its overall appearance.
The power unit for the mouse is another unique addition to where looks come in. Not only does it make the connectors seem more durable but it makes the appearance all the better.
Comfort:
The Balteus features a hard micro-textured, low-friction gaming surface. For some, it may not be to their liking. Preferring a softer smoother finish, but this is not a mouse pad you just randomly buy. It shouldn’t be.
When peripherals come in at these prices caution should always be taken to make sure that it offers what you are looking for and that it will be to your liking.
What’s nice about the surface of this one is that it offers smooth gliding and precise mouse control. This is always a plus, especially where serious gaming is concerned.
It’s not every day we look into portrait mouse pads, these days it’s all about massive landscape mouse pads, sometimes larger enough to cover your entire desk.
However, the Balteus portrait size is still more than adequate offering you enough room and maneuverability to comfortably use your mouse.
Sporting a USB 2.0 passthrough, allows for some cable management. Allowing you to plug in your mouse, headset, or another USB device. Always a neat addition to peripherals especially when it’s not Gen 1 USB ports.
Durability:
Just looking at this one tells you that it was made with nothing but the best materials available. This should be the case, especially considering the brand and price tag.
As I mentioned the stitching on the edges was done very decently. Not only do they look good but they were done in such a way to ensure longevity.
The micro-textured surface is solid and with the mouse pad’s thickness, it is very unlikely likely that it will wear down anytime soon.
The power unit on the mouse pad is always durable and solid. You shouldn’t have any worries that cables might come loose from using it. This a concern that’s viable since it offers a USB passthrough. However, this entire unit is solid and shouldn’t be an issue anytime soon.
The base of the mouse pad is non-slip, featuring the ROG Cybertext design. This ensures that the Balteus is anchored down even in the heaviest of Gaming sessions.
User Friendly & Functionality:
Plug and play. It is as simple as that. Once plugged in you will need the Armoury crate software to manage the mouse pad. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with any other software out there.
Cleaning the Balteus is no issue either. Using a damp cloth to brush off any dust, is pretty much the same method for any other mouse pad out there.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Mouse pads have come a long way with new and more innovative designs and features being added to them with every new design.
The Balteus is no different, with its sturdier more rugged design. It’s impressive RGB and USB 2.0 passthrough.
It’s become quite predictable that PC components with the ROG logo tend to have a higher cost, and the Balteus is no exception. Nevertheless, as previously mentioned, the product’s quality matches its price.
Nothing but good durable materials and workmanship went into this one. ROG gear is quality assured.
