Love at first sight, from the moment I touched this game I was in awe; the little tit bits of information on the back side of the case were music to my ears… It delivered far beyond what I could have expected; it was here that I became a massive Warhammer 40,000 fan.
Some key points that this game offers:
- Epic Single Player Campaign & Story line.
- Tactical gameplay.
- Multiplayer.
- Skirmish Mode.
- Realism like never before.
- The start of something beautiful.
Gameplay & Controls:
How do I put this, everything about this game is amazing, I will be honest before this title I never knew much regarding the Warhammer universe, but I have been studying up and I am now totally intrigued and in awe.
This game delivers fun, challenging and tactical opportunities at every turn. It is a mix of Strategy, Base building and RTS, a perfect Combo where this beauty is concerned. The entire game can be played with your mouse, but full keyboard control is available, shortcuts for almost every action exist in the game, so you can truly be the Space Marine the Emperor needs you to be.
Graphics:
Truly marvellous, every aspect of this game has been given incredible attention to detail. The character models, level design and layout, all perfectly drawn to deliver us one beautiful game.
Everything is neat and tidy, one can clearly distinguish structures from and other created obstacles from one another, and the level terrain is neat and clearly visible. The river crossings and water motion are all impeccably lifelike adding to an already beautiful game.
The realism that the game delivers is simply superb, everything comes together beautifully to truly make this game shine, especially the added lighting effects, the game really looks very lifelike.
Under the settings we have a test function to test how the game can and will run on our systems and we have a variety of customizable options to tweak the game according to our likes and wants.
Sounds:
Gabriel Angelos truly has an Inspiring voice, one simply can’t help but be inspired by every command he delivers, and every word that comes from him has you are paying close attention. The in game music adds to the already lifelike effect that the game delivers.
Every soldier from every race has their own set of phrases that they utter as you control them, the sounds from soldiers marching to the vehicles driving, all clearly audible and very realistic, weapons fire, and damage that gets inflicted, all have their own unique sound to really set them apart.
Last but not least is the amazing soundtrack that sets a new bar of amazing accompanying music that fits in perfectly with the game and the gameplay it offers.
Replayability:
The Campaign mode can be replayed on higher difficulties to put your skills to the test. Skirmish mode can be played against a variety of numerous NPC’s or against some friends online, so plenty of replay value here.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® truly is a masterpiece of a game, every aspect of this game has been incredibly designed.
The story line is truly amazing, inspiring and leaves one wanting more, more gameplay, more story and just even more, one simply can’t stop wanting, they did an amazing job here.
You take control of the Blood Raven’s third Company, with Captain Gabriel Angelos leading them, you make planet fall on Tartarus to help the Imperial forces there deal with the large Ork invasion. As you progress into the story you learn more about who and what the Space Marines are and what they stand for, furthermore, you slowly start seeing that there is an agenda behind the Ork invasion and that they are merely a distraction.
The story plays out beautifully delivering just enough to keep your attention focused whilst investing as much attention as you can to learn more….
